Core Oncology Enters Into an Exclusive North American Distribution Agreement with RadioMed, Subsidiary of IBA, for its VISICOIL™ Family of Products.
Santa Barbara CA – October 24, 2007 – Core Oncology announces today that it has entered into an exclusive North American distribution agreement with RadioMed, subsidiary of IBA, for its VISICOIL™ family of products.
VISICOIL is a proprietary flexible gold linear fiducial marker used to localize cancerous tumors for IMRT & IGRT therapies. It can be implanted easily inside the patient body via a minimally invasive procedure.
Designed for stability and to minimize any motion within the tissue, it conforms to the organ in which it is implanted. Visible under all imaging modalities, VISICOIL markers significantly facilitate patient alignment and enhance targeting capability.
“VISICOIL fiducial markers are easily visible at any anatomical site with a multitude of imaging system from plain megavoltage portals, to KV X-rays, to KV cone beam CT scans, to megavoltage CT scans. We find the coils to be very stable, with no migration at any anatomical site, including lung tumors. Overall, the coils’ sound visibility, low cross sectional mass and lineage make VISICOIL fiducials excellent surrogates of target areas for external beam radiation therapy,” said Dr. Kupelian, a Radiation Oncologist with MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. Orlando, Florida.
They provide physicians with the ability to plan treatment, correct organ movement and accurately target the prescribed dose of radiation to cancerous tumors, while at the same time minimizing the radiation delivered to surrounding healthy tissue. This key feature facilitates a greater degree of precision in IMRT and IGRT radiation therapy.
“This strategic-partnership between RadioMed and CORE Oncology, will allow us to continue to advance and promote the Visicoil™ product line. RadioMed and CORE Oncology are two companies dedicated to providing innovative solutions and superior service to the radiation oncology community”, said Chuck Lindley, COO of Radiomed.
“VISICOIL is superior to competitive marker technologies,” said Travis Gay, Chief Executive Officer of Core Oncology. “The opportunity to broaden our product portfolio and partner with IBA - a global leader in this arena – enables us to provide our customers with an advanced fiduciary marker. This step is consistent with our long-term plan for growth via the delivery of high-quality, high-value products and services. We firmly believe Visicoil will save time for Radiation Oncologists and provide better, more reliable data points for their patient treatment plans.”

About RadioMed Corporation
RadioMed Corporation, IBA’s wholly owned subsidiary, based in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, has developed VISICOILTM, an advanced linear, fiducial, soft tissue marker. VISICOIL is designed to enhance the targeting capability of treatment techniques such as proton therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) allowing more accurate targeting of the dose to cancerous tumors while minimizing dose to the surrounding healthy tissue. This so-called Image-Guided-Radiation-Therapy (IGRT) technique relies on the unique visibility of the VISICOIL marker under a variety of imaging modalities.
RadioMed products are patented and have received clearance from the United Stated Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Web site: www.radiomed.com.
